Coppermine

About Coppermine

Size: 1.11km²
Leases Type: Mining
Primary Commodity: Copper (Cu) and Gold (Au)

Located in the Central Goldfields of Western Australia 30 kilometres northwest of the town of Leonora is the Infinity Mining Coppermine Tenement.

The Coppermine tenement is a prospecting lease with its primary commodities identified as copper and gold.

The Coppermine lease shows evidence of historical copper mine workings and was subject to a scout drilling program in 1974 and 2007. While both programs identified surface copper expression, further geological investigation is needed to better understand the extent.

There is also evidence of rotary air blast holes drilled to intersect a mineralised gossan identified at the surface.

Observations in the shaft and of the gossan outcrop show that it has dipped in the opposite direction to the drilling, confirming the target would have been missed.

A shaft was also dug to access high grade gold found in a narrow quartz vein dipping 45 degrees to the Northwest.

Recent aerial geophysics mapping identified a crescent shape geophysical feature adjacent to and surrounding historic workings and further soil and rock sampling has also confirmed copper and zinc results. A schedule is already in the works for drill testing in 2023.

Just 4 kilometres to the southwest of the King of the Hills Gold Mine, Coppermine is just part of Infinity Mining’s 13.8 square kilometre Central Goldfields portfolio.

High Grade Copper Potential

    • The material within the workings comprises a sheared, deeply weathered siliceous gossanous horizon, displaying strong malachite and azurite alterations.
    • Historically the lease has been explored for copper associated with old workings.
    • Small scale workings have exploited a Malachitic ‘pod’ within an ultramafic/mafic extrusive suite.
    • The material within the workings comprises a sheared, deeply weathered siliceous gossanous horizon, displaying strong malachite and azurite alterations.
    • Limited drilling historically has failed to intersect an extension to the surface mineralisation, however, there remains good potential for mineralisation beneath the surface occurrence.
    • In 2007 Jupiter Mines identified a geophysical anomaly covering the main shaft and surround that warrants further investigation.
    • Historically the lease has been explored for copper associated with old workings.
    • In 1974 a small RAB program targeted the extensions to the mineralised gossan at the surface. From within the shaft the gossan dips away in the opposite direction, hence the drills missed the target completely.
    • The shaft was dug to access high grade gold which is in a narrow quartz vein dipping @ 45 to the NW.
    • 1998 saw Pacmin (formerly Mount Edon and subsequently SOG) explore the area looking for Tarmoola look-a-likes. They rediscovered the historical copper occurrence and took samples.
